February 18, 2005 - Omaha, Nebraska Omaha Beef Football announced today the addition of six team members to their 2005 season roster.
Byron Mitchell-Hughey, 5-11, 170 lbs., Defensive Back comes to the Omaha Beef from Benedictine College in Atchison, Kansas. The former 2003 NAIA.org Football Gazette and NAIAFootball.net All-American defensive back averaged over 40 solo tackles per season while collecting 15 career interceptions. Mitchell-Hughey was also a two-time All-Heart of America Athletic Conference selection and, in his senior season, was named Team Captain and Defensive MVP.
Kevin Oberlander, 6-3, 205 lbs., Quarterback, joins the Omaha Beef from Trinity International University in Deerfield, Illinois. The former NAIAFootball.net United States Sports Academy All-American, Mid-States Football Association Midwest Offensive MVP, Mid-States Football Association Midwest Offensive 1st Team Quarterback lead the team to a 8-2 regular season record and the NAIA National Championship Playoff game.
Quincy Wright, 5-10, 195 lbs., Running Back, hails from the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The former four-year letterman set a single game rushing record with 265 yards on 27 carries against Weber State. Wright was voted most valuable offensive scout in 1998 and was a three-year letter winner on the UNM track team as well. As a senior, Wright averaged 124 rushing and 157 all-purpose yards in 3 games and was also scoring 8 points a game before suffering a season ending knee injury. The 265 yards ranks second all-time in Mountain West Conference history.
Returning for another season
James Johnson, 5-10, 215 lbs., Running Back returns to the Omaha Beef for the 2005 season. Johnson has a successful career as a running back and corner back for the University of Nebraska Omaha prior to joining the Beef. In 2002 he rushed for 1, 046 yards and was named to first team All North Central Conference, running back.
Terrell Spears, 6-1, 250 lbs., Defensive End/Line Backer, returns to the Omaha Beef for his third season. While at the University of Nebraska Omaha, Terrell was a utility player and racked up honors as 1st Team All-Nebraska, and Honorable mention All-American.
Cody Beguin, 6-3, 305lbs., Offensive Lineman, returns to the Omaha Beef for his second season. Beguin is originally from Rushville, NE and attended Chadron State College where he was a 2nd Team All-American. In 2003, Cody played for the Rapid City Red Dogs in the NIFL.
The Omaha Beef will open their season with a home game at the Omaha Civic Auditorium on Saturday, March 19th with a game vs. Sioux Falls Storm. Commercial Federal Bank is the game sponsor. Tickets are now available at all TicketMaster locations.
