Pittsburg State Adds to Peoria Roster

February 1, 2005 - Peoria, IL-Peoria Rough Riders Head Coach Bruce Cowdrey has had great success in capitalizing on the teamwork experience gained at the collegiate level and extending that familiarity with each other into the professional ranks. Cowdrey hopes to continue this success by signing three former Pittsburg State University Gorilla teammates, Tyrone Armstrong (OL), Tim Austin(WR), and Terek Wilson (DB) to contracts for the Rough Riders inaugural 2005 UIF season. All three players contributed significantly in helping PSU Head Coach Chuck Broyles to successful winning seasons at the collegiate level and will assist Peoria in its quest for another football championship.

Rough Rider fans will remember the Eastern Michigan teammates Brandon Campbell, Walt Church, Lincoln Dupree (AFL New York), Jermaine Sheffield, Jason Short (NFL Philadelphia Eagles) and Illinois State alumni, Eric Johnson, Todd Kurz, Andrew Papoccia, Mike Souza (CFL Calgary Stampeders), and Frank West, all contributing to Peoria’s championship tradition.

Tyronne Armstrong, 6-4, 318 lb offensive lineman, earned first-team NCAA Division II All-America honors from Daktronics/DII sports information directors and Football Gazette as a senior in 2003... also a first-team All-MIAA performer... anchored an offensive line that helped Pitt State average 38.3 points (7th NCAA-II), 270.3 yards rushing (5th NCAA-II) and 457.8 total yards (12th NCAA-II) per game... was second-team All-MIAA as a junior in 2002... came to PSU in 2001 after two seasons at NCAA Division IA Arkansas State University.

Terek Wilson, 6-0, 192, defensive back, earned third-team All-Region (Football Gazette) and first-team All-MIAA honors as a senior in 2003... recorded 54 tackles (31 solo) with 10 TFLs, 1.0 quarterback sack, two interceptions, seven pass breakups and one fumble recovery... tied an MIAA record for career INT returns for TDs (4) with a 72 yarder vs. Truman State (9/20)... career totals: 144 tackles (89 solo), 19 TFLs, 4.0 quarterback sacks, seven INTs, 14 PBUs in 47 games.

Tim Austin, 6-2, 195, earned honorable mention All-MIAA honors at wide receiver as a senior in 2004. He caught 45 passes for 835 yards (18.6 ypc) and 7 TDs, helping PSU to a 14-1 record and the NCAA-II National Runner-up finish... caught 8 passes for a game-high 119 yards in the NCAA-II title game vs. Valdosta State... had three 100-yard games on the season...finished his career with 67 receptions for 1213 yards (18.1 ypc) and 9
