Defensive Front Full; Fluit, Flyger, Gassen Return
« Back
January 31, 2005 - Sioux Falls, SD-The Sioux Falls Storm of United Indoor Football (UIF) has resigned its top defensive lineman from last year’s conference championship squad. Nate Fluit, Austin Flyger, and Bill Gassen will return to the Storm’s defensive front line when the team opens play in March. All three were signed to contracts over the weekend.

Fluit, an Augustana College graduate, has been chosen as an all-conference performer the past two years. Fluit registered 11 sacks and 19 tackles for loss last season and helped lead the Storm to the fourth-best defense in the league.

Fellow Augustana graduate Austin Flyger will return to the d-line as well. Flyger left the team after 10 games last season and did not play throughout the playoffs. Despite seeing time in just 10 games, he racked up eight sacks and two fumble recoveries.

Former South Dakota Coyote Bill Gassen rounds out the Storm’s first trio of signees for the 2005 season. Gassen returns to the Storm for his second season after registering five sacks in just six games.

The Storm will open play in the UIF March 19 in Omaha, Nebraska. The team’s first home game will be “The Rematch” versus Lexington on April 9 at the Sioux Falls Arena.
