Beef Announce First 2005 Signees, Tryouts

December 2, 2004 - Omaha, NE- Omaha Beef Football is pleased to announce the first five signees in preparation for the 2005 season. Returning to the Beef from the 2004 season are Damien Bauman, Donavon LaViness and Steve Lovell. New to the team in 2005 will be Wes Amitoelau. Brett Wetton will also return to Omaha this year.

Former Husker Damien Bauman returns for his fourth straight season with Omaha Beef Football. In 2004 he contributed in 12 of 16 games played with 2 sacks, 15.5 tackles, 8 tackles for a loss, 3 yards receiving, 4 kick returns for 20 yards, 1 fumble forced, 1 fumble recovered and a 3 yard reception for a touchdown.

Returning for his second year with the Beef, Donavon LaViness is looking to expand his role with the team as running back and linebacker. Included on the 2004 All-Conference team, LaViness ranked third in the league last season in tackles, 12 for a loss. He also had one interception with an eleven-yard return and received 8 kick returns for 39 yards. LaViness has earned conference all-stars awards as a linebacker for the past two years.

Superman Steve Lovell will return for his 6th season with the Beef. He led the team in receptions during the 2004 season with 605 total yards in 58 receptions and ten touchdowns. Lovell also contributed with 652 yards on 30 kick returns ranking him 6th in the league. He was also named to the divisional all-star list in 2004.

Back with the Beef after one year is Brett Wetton. After a successful season with the Green Bay Blizzard in 2004, Wetton went on to participate in tryouts with Seattle and St. Louis of the NFL. He was named to the divisional all-star list with Tri-City in 2002 and to the divisional and conference all star list with Omaha in 2003.

New to the Beef in 2005 will be Wes Amitoelau. Earning divisional and conference all-star recognition on the offensive line at Utah in 2004, Amitoelau will bring strength and agility to the Beef offensive line. He was instrumental in the team’s participation in the league championship game in 2003 and continued to dominate in their playoff run.

The 2005 Season Open Player tryout will be held on Saturday, December 18 at the Soccer Center located at 14706 Giles Road. Registration will begin at 2:00 PM with testing & workouts from 3:00 until 6:00 PM. Registration is $40 in advance and $45 the day of the tryout. Callbacks will be held on Sunday, December 19th from 4:00 until 6:00 PM. Tryout registration forms are available at the Omaha Beef Football office, the Soccer Center or on-line at www.beeffootball.com.

24-Hour Fitness at Tara Plaza will host the 2005 Prime Dancer tryout on Saturday, December 11. Registration will begin at 1:00 PM with tryouts beginning at 2:00 PM. Registration is $20. Callbacks for final selection of the 2005 Prime Dancer team will be on Sunday, December 12 at 2:00 PM. Registration forms are available at the Omaha Beef Football office or at all 24-Hour Fitness Omaha locations.
