January 21, 2005 - Peoria, IL-With less than 60 days until the Peoria Rough Riders opening game against the Dayton Warbirds (March 17), Rough Rider head coach Bruce Cowdrey adds to his roster.
Shaun Behrend-6-5-204 pound wide receiver from Lakeland College, Sheboygan WI. Shaun was a Honorable Mention (02) and 1st Team All Conference (03) in the Illini-Badger Football Conference. Two-year starter for the Muskies, finished his career with 71 receptions, 1132 yards and 10 touchdowns.
DaWight Benning-6-2-223lbs wide receiver out of Washburn College was utilized as a wide receiver/running back. DaWight finished his time at Washburn with 63 catches, 1000 yards and 7 touchdowns as a receiver. Benning also had 41 carries for 213 yards and 3 touchdowns. Was selected All Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics (MIAA) in 2003. Benning played in the American Professional Football League (APFL) for the Kansas Koyote during the 2003-04 season.
Rodney Griffin-5-11-180 Defensive Back, Lambuth University played for af2 Memphis Xplorrers for 2 seasons (2003-04). Led Lambuth University in tackles during the 2001 and 2002 season with 67 and 83 tackles. Selected 1st Team Defense All Mid-South Conference in 2002 and was a 2nd Team Defense selection in 2001.
Demetrius DJ Johnson 5-9-205 Running Back from Culver-Stockton College became the first Running Back in school history to rush for two consecutive 1,000 yard seasons and accumulate 34 touchdowns in 3 seasons. DJ finished his collegiate career with 2,624 yards rushing and 391 yards receiving. A 2002 and 2003 Don Hansen National Gazette Honorable mention.
Kevin Jones 6-2-225 Quarterback from Virginia State University, was selected Quarterback of the Year, CIAA Offense Player of the Year, and All CIAA First Team Quarterback for both 2002 and 2003. Additionally, was selected the Virginia 2003 Division II Offensive Player of the Year by the Richmond Times Dispatch and inducted into The 100% Wrong Club of Atlanta, Georgia.
Joel Page 6-2, 319 Offensive Lineman, William Jewell College, was selected Team Captain for 2004. Page was a 1st Team Offensive selection in the Heart of America Athletic Conference.
