December 17, 2004 - Sioux Falls, SD-The Sioux Falls Storm of United Indoor Football (UIF) is proud to announce that defensive lineman Mike Lawson has re-signed with the Tampa Bay Storm of the Arena Football League. Lawson joined Sioux Falls at the conclusion of the 2004 AFL regular season after playing two games for the squad last season. He signed his contract with Tampa Bay on Wednesday.

The four-year AFL veteran began last season with the Dallas Desperados. After battling through injuries, the University of Miami graduate headed to Tampa Bay. He has also spent time in the AFL with the Florida Bobcats, Georgia Force, and Arizona Rattlers.

“We are happy that Mike will get another shot in the arena league,” General Manager Colin Steen said. “He was a great addition to our squad down the stretch and he deserves the best that Tampa Bay has to offer.”

Sioux Falls veteran defensive back/wide receiver Shannon Poppinga is attempting to follow Lawson’s lead onto the AFL. After trying out for the team last month, Poppinga was invited back to the Chicago Rush’s training camp in January. The Augustana University graduate will be with the Rush when they open mini-camp on January 9 in Chicago, Illinois.
