Longtime pastor Dr. Dana Moore was named the Corpus Christi Hammerheads' team chaplain, team owner Chad Dittman has announced.
As chaplain, Moore, who has worked as a pastor for some 25 years, will lend the players spiritual guidance through the season and lead the team in prayer before every home game. Moore is excited with his association with the team.
"I think it'll help players see life beyond football," he said. "That's not to say that they already don't, but it'll give them some perspective in life and help them make a spiritual connection through the ups and downs of the season."
Moore is currently the pastor at Second Baptist Church at 6701 S. Staples in Corpus Christi. Some of his past experience includes serving on the board of Amarillo Racial Reconciliation Ministry, a movement to bring churches of different ethnic backgrounds together.
The Hammerheads will kick off training camp in March and will begin their season on the road against El Paso on April 4. The team's first home game is April 11.
