June 9, 2006 - Omaha, NE -The Omaha Beef of the United Indoor Football (UIF) will bring their new look offense into “The Slaughterhouse” on Saturday, June 10 as the Rock River Raptors come to town. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:05 PM with festivities on the Beef Boardwalk starting at 6:00 PM.
Besides losing twice to Sioux Falls, Omaha is the only team to defeat the Raptors. Omaha went into Rockford in Week 6 and came away with the 41-30 victory. The Beef enter the game with a 4-6 record and are currently one game behind a group of three teams for the final playoff position. Omaha may have found the answers to it’s offensive problems in running back Jamar Day and quarterback Andy Majors. The tandom combined for 193 yards of offense and four touchdowns last week. The Beef are averaging 197.7 yards of offense per game. Last week with Day and Majors, the Beef gained 258 yards of offense. New wide reciever, Jason Mitchell, also had an outstanding debut with 6 receptions for 89 yards.
The Beef defense held Sioux Falls to only 133 yards of total offense last week. Omaha unfortunately, could not cause any turnovers. The Beef are tied for fifth in the UIF in takeaways with 16 this season. The Beef defense is allowing 201 offensive yards per game this season, which ranks third in the UIF. Chris Eads continues to dominate opposing offenses. Eads has recorded the fourth most tackles in the UIF with 68.
The Raptors (7-3) defense has given up the third most touchdowns in the UIF this season. They have given up 56 touchdowns compared to 48 given up by Omaha. Quarterback Ben Sankey continues to impress as he was named UIF Offensive Player of the Week for his performance last Saturday vs. Lexington. Sankey is completing 59.5% of his passes and has only thrown two interceptions on the season.
Beef Head Coach Robert Fuller says “Rock River is a very talented team and they are playing great football right now. We are excited to have a shot at another one of the leagues top teams and this could be another game that won’t be decided until the last minute.”
