August 18, 2005 - Peoria, IL - Chuck Goodwin enters his first year as Head Coach of the Peoria RoughRiders. He has spent four of the last seven years serving as Assistant Head Coach/Defensive Coordinator/Offensive Line Coach in the United Indoor Football League, AF2 and IFL, and will again act as defensive coordinator in addition to carrying the head coaching duties.
In his first season in Peoria (1999), Goodwin helped guide the IFL Peoria Pirates as Offensive Line Coach to a 12—2 record and Gold Cup Championship appearance. He then moved to the Quad City Steamwheelers as Defensive Coordinator from 1999 -2001, where his defense led the AF2 in almost every category, and while compiling a 19-0 record to take home the Arena Cup Championship.
Goodwin returned to Peoria in 2004 as Defensive Coordinator, where his Defensive Unit finished #1 in scoring, and assisted in winning a National Conference Championship on the way to the 2004 Arena Cup Championship game.
Whether as a player or a coach, Chuck Goodwin’s name is synonymous with quality and integrity. Prior to joining the indoor football ranks, Goodwin spent 14 years at Illinois Valley Community College. There he served as head coach for the final six of those 14 years, and earned the distinction of 1996 Coach of The Year in the N4C Conference. He got his start in coaching in 1982 as an assistant at his alma mater, St. Ambrose University.
Goodwin was a four-year starter, first at Illinois Valley Community College and then at St. Ambrose University. His playing career also saw him named to the NAIA All American Team in 1981, and invited to try out with the then Houston Oilers.
A native of Rock Island, Goodwin currently resides in Spring Valley with his wife of six years, Stephanie. After receiving a bachelor’s degree in History from St Ambrose University, he then earned a masters degree from Governors State University in Political Science. He is a member of the American Football Coaches Association.
