Player of the Week Awards Announced

April 7, 2005 - Omaha, NE - United Indoor Football is proud to announce Players-of-the-Week awards. Outstanding player performances will be recognized throughout the season and weekly awards will be announced every Wednesday. Weekly awards will be given in three categories: Offensive, Defensive and Special Teams.

Week one (1) saw many solid performances in the UIF. The offensive player of the week was Evansville’s Dale Jennings. The Bluecats running-back carried the ball 29 times for a total of 122 yards and found the end zone and impressive 4 times on the night. Jennings also caught 2 passes for a total of 23 yards on his way to an all-purpose yards total of 145 yards. Tupelo’s Michael Gholar was the Defensive player of the week in week one. Gholar racked up 15 tackles in the FireAnts game against the Lexington Horsemen. He had one interception to go along with 12 solo tackles in the game. Wrapping up Week one awards in the Special Teams category was Prince Morgan. Morgan had 9 kick returns for a total of 178 return yards in the Red Dogs game against the Bandits in Sioux City. The Black Hills return specialist averaged over 19 yards per return in the losing effort on the road.

Week two (2) saw limited games in the UIF, but maximum effort by those on the schedule. Wide-receiver Greg Muckerson from Ohio Valley was the week two Offensive player of the week. Muckerson caught 5 passes for a total of 105 yards and 3 touchdowns for the Greyhounds. Peoria standout Marcus James was the Defensive player of the week in week two. James had 8 tackles against the FireAnts in week two. The Rough Riders defensive-back also added 1 pass breakup and 1 pass interception to his solid performance in the win against Tupelo. Special Teams standout for the week was Sioux Falls’s James Jones. Jones had 5 kick-returns for a total of 150 yards in the Storm’s win against the Red Dogs. One of Jones’ returns found the end zone after a lightning quick 50 yard, end-to-end blast. Jones also added an additional rushing touchdown to his 31.8 yard return average on the night.

Wrapping up the player awards to date in the UIF are our week three (3) winners. Evansville was home to the Offensive player of the week in week three. The Bluecats’ Sean Bennett had 5 touchdowns on Saturday night against the visiting Horseman. Bennett caught 2 and ran 3 balls in for scores as Evansville grabbed a close win over division rival Lexington at home. The Defensive player of the week was Eddie Bynes. The Greyhounds defensive lineman had 10 tackles in Ohio Valley’s win over Tupelo. Bynes caused major havoc for the FireAnts offense as he sacked Tupelo’s quarterback 6 times on the night and forced 1 fumble. Sioux City’s Fred Jackson took home Special Teams honors in week three. Jackson had 88 yards on 4 kick returns on the night. He added this to an impressive offensive performance of over 166 total yards and 3 touchdowns in the Bandits win over the visiting Tennessee Valley Raptors.
