April 4, 2005 - Omaha, NE - Week 3 of United Indoor Football is in the books after three games this weekend. On Friday night, the Sioux City Bandits dropped the Tennessee Valley Raptors to 0-2 on the young season with a 41-34 victory in the Tyson Events Center/Gateway Arena. Runningbacks took center stage as Sioux City's Fred Jackson reached the end zone three times on 128 yards rushing, while the Raptors Durocher Miller scored twice on 84 yards. The Bandits are now 2-0 and will face their first road test on April 9 as they travel down Interstate 29 for the annual rivalry with the Omaha Beef. Kick-off is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. CT in the Omaha Civic Auditorium. Tennessee Valley is idle next week.
Also on Friday night, the Ohio Valley Greyhounds defeated the Tupelo FireAnts in the BancorpSouth Center in Tupelo, Mississippi. Ohio Valley quarterback Zac Bruney threw three touchdown passes, all to different receivers, for 150 yards. Ohio Valley also shined on defensive, as they were credited with seven sacks. The Greyhounds win is their first in three tries, while the FireAnts have dropped three straight to open the UIF season. Tupelo will host the Evansville Bluecats on Friday, April 8 while Ohio Valley has a bye next week.
The weekend concluded with a Saturday night contest in Evansville, Indiana, as the Bluecats narrowly defeated the Lexington Horsemen 57-52. Sean Bennett rushed for two touchdowns and caught two passes for the Bluecats, while Lexington's Derek Homer caught two touchdown passes. Horsemen quarterback Dusty Bonner threw two touchdown passes and rushed for another. Evansville improved to 2-0 on the season, while the Horsemen are now 2-1. The Bluecats travel to Tupelo on April 8, while the Sioux Falls Storm will host the Horsemen in Sioux Falls Arena on April 9.
