East wins Casey's All-Star Classic game

August 18, 2007 - Bloomington, IL - The Eastern Conference All-Stars defeated the Western Conference All-Stars 49 to25 in the first ever United Indoor Football (UIF) All Star game tonight. The game capped off what UIF Executive Director and Commissioner, Dakota Crow, called an “incredibly successful” three day Casey’s All Star Classic.

Playing on his home turf, Bloomington quarterback Dusty Burk earned the Allegiant Air All-Star MVP Award. Burk finished six-of-seven (four-of-four in the first half) for 61 yards and two touchdowns with one interception. Burk connected with his Bloomington teammate James Walton mid-way through the first quarter for an 11-yard touchdown. In the third quarter he hit Ohio Valley’s Demetrius Wilbert on a 21-yard touchdown pass. Burk also ran for a three-yard touchdown near the end of the first. For his efforts, Burk receives two round-trip tickets from Allegiant Air—Official Airline of the All-Star Classic.

Lexington’s Harry Lewis pulled in four catches from East quarterbacks for 59 yards with one touchdown to lead the team in receiving. Lexington’s Rayshawn Askew led the East in rushing with 56 yards on 10 carries and two touchdowns.

Bloomington Head Coach Ted Schmitz coached the East squad. Their defense was a combined effort as Lexington’s J.T. Haskins, Bloomington’s Terrill Mayberry and RiverCity’s Terrell Washington each tallied 6.5 tackles. The East defense intercepted West quarterbacks three times, broke up six of their passes and sacked them twice. East’s special teams also blocked a kick.

The Western Conference was led by Sioux Falls quarterback Terrance Bryant who completed 14-of-21 passes for 107 yards and two touchdowns. Colorado’s Eugene Reed had 25 yards rushing on three carries while Sioux City’s Johnnie Ostermeyer grabbed eight passes 79 and one touchdown for the West.

Defensively for the West, Colorado’s Travis Garcia and Omaha’s Brent Hafford each had 4.5 tackles. Sioux Falls’ Leif Murphy was the only West defender to garner a sack.
