July 30, 2007 - Omaha, NE - Round two of the playoffs is complete. In the Eastern Conference Championship, the Lexington Horsemen took care of business against the Bloomington Extreme. While over in the Western Conference, the Sioux Falls Storm defeated the Billings Outlaws for the fourth time this season. With the wins, Lexington and Sioux Falls will face off in Saturday’s United Bowl III. It will mark the third time in four years the two teams will meet with a championship on the line.
LEXINGTON 67, BLOOMINGTON 49
At Lexington, KY
The Lexington Horsemen won the Eastern Conference Championship Saturday by defeating the Bloomington Extreme 67-49 at Rupp Arena. Leading the way for the Horsemen were QB Eddie Eviston and DB Earven Flowers. Eviston completed 18 of 25 passes for 234 yards and seven touchdowns; he also had an 11-yard touchdown run. Defensively, Flowers made seven tackles (.5 TFL), forced a fumble, an interception and also broke up two passes. Also, in the game, RB Rayshawn Askew entered the history books with his 8-yard touchdown pass from Eviston with 1:12 remaining. The touchdown was his 209th in his career, eclipsing NFL great Jerry Rice’s 208. Bloomington was led by QB Dusty Burk and DB Mike Crumpler. Burk had 300 yards of total offense (21 rushing and 279 passing) and four passing touchdowns. Crumpler made 5.5 tackles to lead the defense. Lexington moves on and will face Sioux Falls in United Bowl III Saturday at the Sioux Falls Arena. Bloomington finishes their season with a 9-8 record.
SIOUX FALLS 45, BILLINGS 23
At Sioux Falls, SD
The Sioux Falls Storm won the Western Conference Championship Sunday by defeating the Billings Outlaws 45-23 at the Sioux Falls Arena. Leading the way for Sioux Falls were QB Terrance Bryant and DL Cory Johnsen. Bryant completed 15 of 20 passes for 232 yards and two touchdowns (both to James Terry); he also rushed for 11 yards and two touchdowns. Johnsen tallied seven tackles (three TFL) and a sack. Leading the way for Billings were QB Chris Dixon and DL Eugene Phillips. Dixon had 149 yards of total offense (49 rushing and 100 passing) and three total touchdowns (one rushing and two passing). Phillips made 6.5 tackles and also recovered a fumble. Sioux Falls moves on and will host Lexington in United Bowl III Saturday at the Sioux Falls Arena. Billings finishes their season with a 9-7 record.
